The GIST:

"Fifteen year old Dasheen Bellamy’s world is turned upside down, when she is accused of killing her father and godmother. Dasheen cannot remember the events of the night her world is destroyed, but she feels inside that she is innocent; due to lack of evidence against her and with no other family; Dasheen and her younger brother Jordan, are sent to the elusive and mysterious Ame’ Academy ; a residential school where all is not what it appears. There all goes well, until Jordan, begins to become distant and behave strangely as if he is afraid of something or someone. Jordan is transferred to Ame’ Academy’s Night School track, which is usually only open to special cases. In order to discover what is happening with her brother, Dasheen is finally allowed to also transfer, attending classes in the evening while the rest of the world sleeps. Soon Dasheen’s world changes again as she discovers that things out of fairytales and horror stories exist, that she has ancient powers and is the major player in a mystical prophecy; and then she falls in love with a boy, whose mission is to see that she is destroyed before her destiny is fulfilled."

I am so pleased to have Michelle Cornwell-Jordan here to talk about her love of writing and being an Indie author. What's so admirable about Indie authors is their want to take the reins and have more say over their careers. I love that Michelle really enjoys all aspects of producing a novel!

What writing to me is?

Michelle Cornwell-Jordan

I have always wanted to write, it wasn’t a choice…I like to say I did not choose to write, writing chose me…(Writing is escape and the doorway to live my dreams…and it brought me to the great opportunity of Indie publishing)

So…

Yes, I am an Independent Author and really I am very proud of this fact :). I know many, many years ago, there might have been a stigma attached to going into the self publishing field with simply a dream, and the crinkled pages of that long- slaved over masterpiece …but today, not so much.

Now, there is an influx of talented individuals from all walks of life seeking the option of independent publishing; not only with those never published before, but also many who have traveled the traditional route; They too are coming into this field and blazing paths; also with the advent of new technology, and the mindset that this (Indie Publishing), is to be taken seriously, the production of quality material and a greater respect of the field is surfacing.

I would say the one attribute that many Indies share is the spirit of adventure…a somewhat Maverick personality,  that enjoys taking the reins of his/her dreams into their own hands; then from hard work and discipline, begin to see the fruits of their labor.

I found this path as many before me…in years of writing, making mistakes and then getting right back to it. I also have always had an adventurous spirit; enjoying “projects” and research. So I was not completely turned off with the “other” that came with being an Indie, such as marketing and the research involved in locating professionals to handle the things that I could not…such as cover designs, editing etc..

I believe what I love the most regarding what I am doing now is that there is such a community here…and it’s exciting and inspiring to have that network of others with the same outlet, goals and dreams …I believe that, the ability of many Indies to turn and give a helping hand is the greatest of the benefits in Indie publishing.

So, I’m an Indie Author, yep!:) Getting the t-shirt….LOL…

(um, there IS a t-shirt right???...I was told it would be!:)

Happy reading all:)
